Reminder: The "Prominent Singers in Anime" section has been split into
two parts: singers who are also voice actors (Kinuko, Noriko, Megumi,
Kumi), and singers who only perform theme songs. If you are not sure
which section to check, check them both!
As always, any corrections/additions/comments are welcome. I'm trying
to get the track titles for as many of the CDs as possible, and fill up
the individual anime singers section. (Any Hirano Fumi or Wada Kanako
lovers out there?) I realize that the list is quite long, but I found
that by posting the whole thing (as opposed to mailing it out or making
it directly available for ftp), I get a lot more additions, corrections,
comments, etc. I'm posting it since that feedback is the strength of
this list. Enjoy!

If you think an album may be out of print, let me know. While it
still may be possible to buy it at some stores, it will save some
frustrations when trying to special order it.
Japanese CDs usually have the production date printed within a box on
the back cover, with the year of the original production usually
replaced by a letter. The letters correspond to the following years:
N 1984 H 1986 R 1988 C 1990
I 1985 O 1987 E 1989 D 1991
Although many of these CDs are out of print and commercial CD Catalogs
from Japan contain far more listings, I believe the strengths of this
list lie in the comments given by the various contributers. (How else
would someone know which Orange Road CD or Macross CD to buy!) So
please, if you own a CD listed here and would like to make a comment,
*any comment*, please do!
A list of mail order sources for these CDs appears at the end of the
document. If you can add or comment on these as well, please do!
Wanted: Information on "Manga" CD's!
DISCLAIMER: Because I "collected" many of these listings and did not
write them, I cannot vouch for their complete accuracy. Use this as a
guide only. Thanks!

great rocker song. The third is a pretty good funk song,
This Night. The majority of the rest are pretty good,
although there is a track that sounds as bad to me as hearing
C-ko Kotobuki belt one out.)

Bubblegum Crash! Knight Sabers 2034
Polydor POCH 2031, Y2800
8 tracks, 55:25
(It is just a complete (maybe) story, i.e. dialogs,
sound effects, one closing theme song and everything
you might expect in listening to a BGC! radio show.
The ONLY unobstructed song is the closing theme song,
and it is preceded on the last track by sea shore
sounds and some talking. I don't recommend this unless
you are crazy about BGC! and understand spoken Japanese
with only background sound effects for cues.)
Bubblegum Crash! Dramage Library: Soldier Blue
Polydor POCH-??, Y3200?
(An image drama-type album that, like the MZ 23
should be recommended only for those who have a rather good
understanding of the Japanese language. The cover is rather
horrendous as far as the art goes, but inside, there _is_
a sticker of the horrendous cover to the CD. If the dialogue
is from BGC!, (maybe someone else can confirm or not) this
is a CD I recommend no one get because the dialogue from
BGC!, unlike MZ 23, is not worth having on audio.)

by Madonna's "Justify My Love". Tracks 8 and 10 are
upbeat rock songs.)

27 tracks: 5 vocal/22 instrumental, 49:41
(Kawai Kenji composed the instrumentals. Has the most
famous vocals and BGM, with some wonderful "long BGM"
tracks (1, 7, 13, 27...) that could not be heard wholly
in TV series. Remember the most beautiful "kiss"
love scene between Godai and Kyoko, just when the snow
starts falling, 3 episodes before the final one? That
BGM is from track 1, "bells ring in the dawn", a
masterpiece... and the CD starts with it... and it ends
with these ringing bells too... listen carefully !
In the final episode 96, you can hear the track 13 too,
while Godai-kun is revealing all characters' stories.)

Maison Ikkoku Koi suru Kimochi
Kitty Records H30K-20088 (1987.9.25), Y3008
15 tracks: 8 vocal/7 drama, 39:31
("A feeling of love". All these songs are performed
by Shimamoto Sumi, the "real" voice of Kyoko. Some of
them are Sumi-chan's versions of OP/ED themes (1, 13),
others are insert songs, that may be heard for a -too?-
short time in the TV series (5, 9) while others are brand
new (3, 7, 11, 15). The OP/ED themes' original musics
have been changed a little, and now feelings are
different, but very good, still in the TV style. Between
the songs, dialogues (SC) featuring Kyoko, Godai, Akemi,
Yotsuya and Ichinose have been inserted. They have been
created especially for this CD and cannot be found
elsewhere! A Japanese friend (who CAN understand
Japanese...) told me that these dialogues were VERY funny.
He used to translate me the last one (SC-7), here it is
(Kyoko speaking): "Wow, I had a hard time; I was very
impressed to have to sing in front of you but it was very
nice. Yotsuya-san didn't stop from talking and drinking,
so that he didn't listen to me at all! But I hope that
YOU did... didn't you?".
The first one (SC-1) is made of all Ikkoku-kan weirdos
congratulating Kyoko for this new CD performance, with
a final loud "Kanpai!!".
A good and enjoyable CD to fill your collection up.)

Maison Ikkoku Music Shake
Kitty Records H00K-20162 (1989.12.21), Y3008
56 tracks: 2 vocal/54 instrumental, 53:19
(Music Composer, tracks 1 to 37: Sugiyama Takuo
Music Composer, tracks 38 to 55: Kawai Kenji
except the vocals. Could be named "Music Sour Vol.2"
(in fact, it is BGM Vol.2). This CD is the PERFECT
continuation of "Music Sour", and the same composers
did the job too here. Many many short/long musics and
bridges here, and moreover you are given the latest two
missing OP/ED songs! Very enjoyable too. With only
these 2 CDs, you may own 90% of all Maison Ikkoku BGM.)

voice) can be found ONLY in this CD and "Koi suru
kimochi". "Music Cocktail" is a pure copy of this, except
for track 1.)

Pony Canyon PCCG-00013 (1990.1.21), Y2800
19 tracks / 46 subtracks, 52:19
(Nettou-ongaku-hen has much of the early Ranma 1/2
Nettouhen BGM. The only vocal is the first closing
theme from Ranma 1/2 Nettouhen. The Nettouhen music
is a lot more shallow and cartoony than the original
series, except the music from the skating pair episodes
which were made by the original producers, but weren't
aired until Nettouhen. Some of it is cute, but overall
flat by comparison with Ongaku Doujou.)

Ranma-teki kikaku omban III
Ranma 1/2 DoCo * First
Pony Canyon PCCG-00142 (1991.7.21), Y2000
7 tracks, 29:11
(The CD is packaged in a fold-out cardboard picture
frame for 6 CD-sized cels of DoCo as a group and one
of each of the members:
Ranma Hayashibara Megumi
Akane Hidaka Noriko
Shampoo Sakuma Rei
Nabiki Takayama Minami
Kasumi Inoue Kikuko
The guide contributes a couple background cries in the
3rd track. Fairly mellow, easy listening with a
Chinese bent, and the voices are a fair match with
CoCo's, but not very interesting.)

two kanji of the real name with HISHA, a shogi piece.]
11. Dai-ni Rokaku: Daikokusei to Daihakusei 0:56
(The Second Castle: Daikokusei and Taihakusei)
[Daikoku is a god of wealth, but Daikokusai doesn't
resemble that fat, middle-aged man at all.
They seem to just represent the black pieces and
white pieces of Go.]

Ranma-teki kikaku omban IV
Ranma 1/2 Kakutou Uta Karuta (Fighting Song Karuta)
Pony Canyon PCCG-00163 (1991.12.21), Y3200
45 tracks, 59:33
(Karuta are traditional Japanese playing cards. There
are 45 songs, beginning with each character in the
Japanese syllabary, from "a" to "n", most one verse
long. 14 of these are all the OP/ED themes up to
"POSITIVE", all covers by characters, only about half
are "musical". Sold with karuta cards, one deck with
the first verses of the songs, and one with the first
kana and a picture. The artwork is very simplistic,
Nettouhen at its worst, though the card with Shampoo
in a tiger outfit like Ranma on the cover of manga
volume 3 and volume 5 part 4 is soooo cute.)

then you'll recognize this song, though it's in
