Some Things You May Not Know
About Homosexuality
Despite the attention Given to Homosexuals in the media and in the
public forum many citizens are not informed regarding the homosexual
community and its goals. Many are uncertain about what they should do
in response to homosexuality. The Facts presented here are intended to
help these citizens make up their minds.
1. The Homosexuals: Goals
For the past many years homosexuals have been working to
implement the Gay Right Platform drawn up at the National
Coalition of Gay Organizations Convention, Chicago, 1972.
In addition to other goals, they are committed to:
*"Federal encouragement and support for sex education courses,
prepared and taught by Gay women and men, presenting homosexuality
as a valid, healthy preference and life-style which is a
viable alternative to heterosexuality."
*"Repeal of all state laws prohibiting private sexual acts
involving consenting persons; equalization for homosexuals and
heterosexuals regarding the enforcement of all laws."
*"Repeal of all state laws prohibiting solicitation for private
voluntary sexual liaisons; and laws prohibiting prostitution,
both male and female."
*" Enactment of legislation so that child custody, adoption,
visitation rights, foster parenting, and the like shall not
be denied because of sexual orientation or marital status."
*"Repeal of all laws governing the age of sexual consent."
*"Repeal of all legislative provisions that restrict the sex or
number of persons entering into a marriage unit; and the
extension of legal benefits to all persons who cohabit regardless
of sex or numbers." (1)
2. The Homosexuals : Their Identity
*Homosexuals claim to have been born with an innate, natural
and undeniable desire for sexual contact with those of the
same gender.
*The reality, however, is that nobody is born homosexual.
Modern research that purports to "prove" a genetic link has been
both scientifically flawed and philosophical biased.
*Dr. James McCary,, author of Sexual Myths and Fallacies;
"Neither present day endocrinological tests nor microscopic
or clinical examination have revealed any physiological
differences between the heterosexual and homosexual
individual." (2)
*Dr. Charles Socarides, Albert Einstein College:
" Homosexuality, the choice of a partner for the same sex
for orgiastic satisfaction, is not innate." (3)
*Masters and Johnson, sex therapists and researchers: "The
genetic theory of homosexuality has been generally discarded
today." (4)
*The most telling evidence, though, that homosexual drive is
not undeniable is that thousands are leaving the homosexual
lifestyle. Most require counseling and support group help but
the change is clearly possible.
*Dr. Socarides: "Psychotherapy appears to be unsuccessful in
only a small number of patients of any age in whom a long
habit is combined with...lack of desire to change." (5)
*people may find themselves with a propensity (temptation
toward same gender sexual activity, but, as we seen, that
propensity is not undeniable. It is similar in this regard to
toward alcoholism, excessive anger or other destructive practices.
*The conclusion of the matter is, then, that whatever the
strength of the drives involved, homosexuality is a decision, not
a destiny.
3. The Homosexuals: Their origins:
Dr. George Rekers, University of South Carolina:
*Homosexuality stems from "difficulties in the parent-child
relationship, especially in the earlier years of life. The
homosexual has suffered from some deficit in the relationship
with the parent of the same sex, and there is a corresponding
drive to make good this deficit through the medium of same-sex
or homosexual relationships."
Dr. Elizabeth Moberly, Cambridge University:
*The following factors frequently are present:*Abuse, either
physical or sexual. (85-90% of lesbians have been victims of sexual
abuse.)
*traumatic family upheaval at critical periods in the child's
life.
*Rebellion-need to defy authority (parents, society).
*Opportunity to engage in homosexual behavior.
*The homosexual Lifestyle later becomes bondage.
4.The Homosexuals: Their Numbers
*Based on Alfred Kinsey's famous but flawed 1948 report, it is
frequently claimed that 10% of the population is homosexual.
*Kinsey's research, however, has been discredited by
revelations of researcher bias and non-representative
sampling. (6)
*The Correct Numbers are:
*University of Chicago study: 1% Exclusively homosexual
*National Center for Health Statistics: less than 3%
homosexual or bisexual.
*Dr. William Simon, (research associate with Kinsey
Institute). 1% males mainly homosexual ( however he
estimates realistically 2-3%)..
5. Homosexuals: Their Lifestyle
Compared to heterosexuals, homosexuals are:
*Much more promiscuous
*A 1982 study by the US. Center for Disease Control revealed
that 50% of male homosexuals have had over 500 different
sexual partners; for AIDS victims,the average is 1,100.

*Much more pedophilic
*In one study, two homosexual researchers found that 73% of
male homosexuals had sex as adults with boys nineteen or
younger. (8)
*Much more abusive
*Data from several studies suggest that, considering men and
women together homosexuals are at least 8-12 times more
likely to molest children than heterosexuals. (9 10 11)
Another set of data indicated that homosexual teachers are at
least 5 times more likely to make sexual advances toward, and
at least 7 times more likely to have sexual contact with,
their students than their heterosexual counterparts. (12)
*their sexual activity usually takes the form of oral and anal
intercourse (i.e., sodomy) or mutual masturbation.
*In a national study of U.S. Sexual practices 9 (the results
of which are parallel to other studies 13) the following data
were collected for homosexual men. [Data for heterosexual
men in brackets for comparison.]
*93% report anal sexual relations [vs 36%]. (14)
*92% report having engaged in oral-anal sexual activity, i.e.
inserting the tongue into or licking the anus [vs 25%]
(15) (71% more than once [vs. 20%] (16)).
*17% report eating and or rubbing themselves with feces of
their partners [ vs. 1%]. (14)
*29% report urinating on or in their partners [vs. 4%].

*37% report sadomasochism [vs. 5%]. (14)
*12% report the giving and receiving of enemas for sexual
pleasure [vs.2%]. (14)
*42% report "handballing" or "fisting"where the hand and
arm are inserted into the rectum of their partner
[ vs. 2%]. (14)
*32% report bondage [vs. 10%]. (14)
*15% report having sex with an animal [vs. 3%]. (14)
*67% report participation in group orgies [vs. 12%].

*One researcher estimates that homosexuals are fifteen times
more likely to commit murder than heterosexuals. (17) Police
often assume gory murders to be homosexual until proven
otherwise. (18)
*Approximately one out of ten homicides in San Francisco is due
to sadomasochistic sex among homosexuals. (19)
6.The Homosexuals; Their Health
*Because of their use of the organs of excretion for orgasmic
satisfaction and because of their high level of promiscuity
(see Section 5), homosexuals open themselves up to a host of
serious health problems.
*Even before the AIDS crisis, male homosexuals were known to be
a very unhealthy group. For example, a group of rare bowel
diseases usually found only in the tropics became so common in
the homosexual community that it was designated " gay bowel
Syndrome." (20)
*Homosexuals account for half of the U. S. cases of syphilis,21
gonorrhea of the throat and intestinal infections. (22)
*The infection rate for infectious hepatitis B is 20-50 times
greater for homosexual males than for heterosexual males. 23
It is estimated that one-half to three-fourths of homosexual
men have or have had this disease. (24)
*Diseased homosexual food handlers in public restaurants were
responsible for major outbreaks of amebiasis and hepatitis A
infections in San Francisco and Minneapolis. (25)
*AIDS in its early years in U. S. Was almost exclusively a male
homosexual disease.(Sixty-five percent of U. S. AIDS cases- 87%
in Minnesota-still occur in homosexual men.) The overwhelming
risk factor for sexual transmission of the disease is receptive
anal intercourse, (26) in which the rectum is frequently torn.
(27) Even when the rectum is not torn, though, seamen can
readily penetrate the rectal wall (the wall of the vagina
cannot be so penetrated), enter the bloodstream and wreak havoc
with the immune system. (28)
*The cost to society of dealing with these health risks is
difficult to calculate. The annual medical costs of caring for
AIDS patients alone is expected to increase from $5 billion
to over $10 billion in 1993. (29)
7. The Homosexuals: Their strategy
*Since the homosexual lifestyle revolved around the practice of
sodomy (i.e., anal or oral intercourse), it is difficult for
homosexuals to gain societal acceptance for their behavior where
that practice is illegal. One of the first stratagems employed,
therefore, is to try to have state sodomy laws repealed.
*Homosexuals argue that government has no business regulating
what goes on in the bedroom. Laws against bestiality, rape,
child sexual abuse, polygamy, incest and prostitution refute
this assertion.
*Another argument is that sodomy should be legalized because it
is a "victim less crime." The lifestyle and health issues
raised above, however (see sections 5 & 6), make it clear that
the practice of sodomy has numerous victims. It carries an
unacceptable price tag,not only for the individual homosexual
and his partners, but for those who might be drawn into the
lifestyle and the rest of society.
*In addition to trying to have sodomy laws repealed,
homosexuals have tried to gain acceptance by seeking to have
"sexual orientation" added to the list of classes- race,
gender, national origin, etc. - protected by civil rights
laws. In the process of arguing for these "gay rights" laws,
they draw an analogy between their situation and that of
African Americans before the civil rights movement.
*The analogy, however, is not a good one. People of color
cannot abandon their color the way many people are abandoning
their homosexuality.
*The main reason the analogy breaks down is that nearly all the
classes traditionally protected by civil rights statutes
share a common immutable trait or status which they did not
choose, while homosexuals share a common behavior which they do
choose. (30) There is no more logic to granting such
protection to homosexuals then there would be to granting it to
other behavior-based groups such as smokers, joggers, or
homemakers.
*What homosexuals are seeking then, is a special privilege--a
protection of their particular behavior not available to
otherss: the right to practice oral and anal sodomy with others
of the same gender without having that lifestyle taken into
account, even by people who find it immoral, unhealthy,
undisciplined, enslaving, unwise and/or repugnant.
8.The Homosexuals: Their Costs
*Granting homosexuals the "rights" they seek means that other
people will lose their rights.
Parents and schools will lose their right to choose who will
teach, supervise or serve as role models for their children.
Property owners will lose their right to protect themselves,
their property and their other tenants from undesirable influences.
Churches will lose their right to exclude staff whose practice
violates their doctrine. Examples of such inequities abound.
*The big Brothers organization in Minneapolis was ordered to
accept a homosexual for a role model relationship with a
young boy without telling the boy's mother about his
homosexuality. They were also ordered to pay legal
costs and undertaken affirmative action solicitation
in the homosexual media. An appeal to the state district
reversed this finding, but did not reimburse court costs.
*In St. Paul, a Catholic priest was found to be in violation
of that city's "gay rights" ordinance for refusing to
hire a homosexual teacher who said he just wanted to
teach young boys. The priest was narrowly saved from
a possible $300 fine and 90 days in jail when the
voters of the city overturned the ordinance.
*Two young women in Madison, Wisconsin, who advertised for
an additional roommate declined to rent to a lesbian who
applied. They were ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, submit
to reeducation courses taught by homosexuals, write a letter
of apology and have their housing situations monitored for
two years.
*The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis was ordered to
pay damages to a homosexual Catholic group for refusing
to rent space to them in church-owned building near the
University of Minnesota campus even though the group's
teaching and practice were in violation of church doctrine.
*In addition, "gay rights" statues will increase the percentage
of people, especially youths, drawn into the destructive homosexual
lifestyle. Many teenagers are insecure in their emerging sexual
identities. As many as 25% may have had youthful homosexual
experiences. Greater public support for homosexuality will
make it easier for many vulnerable young people to be lured
into homosexual lifestyle.
9. The Homosexuals: Their Needs
*Homosexuals believe their primary need is for public approval,
not just of themselves as persons, but also of their behavior.
*What they really need, however, is not public approval of
their behavior but public disapproval. Public approval of
homosexual behavior, such as is granted in repeal of
of sodomy statutes or the enactment of "gay rights" statutes,
serves only to affirm them in a destructive lifestyle-destructive
not only in terms of health but also in terms of the emptiness
brought on by a life of promiscuity and by violation of nature's
clear order for sexual relations.
*Those of us, then, who accept this description of homosexuals
as hurting people, and also accept the responsibility for
helping them leave their lifestyle- while affirming their worth
as persons- must:
*Develop the personal relationships with the homosexuals
necessary for such an undertaking, and
*Compassionately but steadfastly resist the homosexual
political agenda.

I've been through this list before in other conferences, but for the
sake of informing the participants here of how I feel, here goes:

Asking sex ed teachers what their sexual orientation is is probably
unconstitutional. There is no reason for the school district to know
what the sexual orientation of teachers is. What they need to know is
that the teacher is agreeable to teaching the curriculum vitae as laid
out by the School Board. As for teaching that homosexuality is a valid
lifestyle, I'm all for it. It has been determined by the American
Psychological Association that it is not in any way aberrant or
neurotic, and I agree. For those who prefer their own gender to the
opposite one, it is a perfectly viable alternative.

I'm all for it. The sooner Uncle gets out of my bedroom, the better.

Again, I'm all for it. If I want to sell my body, it is mine to sell.
Everybody sells their body, one way or another. Bartenders sell their
arches and lower backs. Teachers sell their nervous systems. So
prostitutes rent out their genitals for a few minutes. So what?

Again, I agree. If somebody is a decent, loving person, there is no
reason in the world why they shouldn't be eligible to take in foster

They are redundant anyway. Sex without consent, regardless of age, is
a felong (rape). Since children below a certain age are mentally
incapable of giving informed consent, and since many people above a
certain age are mentally incapable of giving informed consent, why not
make the issue what it really is: the ability to give informed
consent?

I'm all for it. It is none of the State's business who I marry. Their

I need some credentials, including the year he completed his training
and in what field. What he says was probably considered to be true 20
years ago, but much has happened in the scientific community since.
(I'll bet McCary is a fundy.)

Masters and Johnson did their research prior to the latest findings. I
wonder what they would say today.
As an aside, it doesn't make any difference to me whether homosexuality
is genetic or learned. Religious preference is learned, too, but
nobody is suggesting we ought to make laws specifically excluding the
religious from being able to choose their own mate, adopt children,
etc. because of the choices they have made concerning the direction of
their lives.

I would be very surprised if these thousands aren't bisexuals who have

them who have publicly given up the lifestyle, but surreptitiously
continued it in order to get out of the hot seat.

treat them otherwise (i.e., innocent until proven guilty).

Often, those on the edge of societal acceptance will exaggerate on the

assertion. Since the case can be used as a precedent in other cases,

Please not the number of times Paul Cameron's name is used as a
reference. This is important. P. Cameron was thrown out of the
American Psychological Association several years ago because he cooked
the books on the sex research numbers to make them appear to support
his fundy agenda. He is as dishonest as the ICR crowd is, only in
another area of human endeavor. His name was widely touted in the
Measure 9 campaign here in Oregon, too. But fortunately, there were
enough well-informed people throughout the state who were willing to
stick their necks out to expose his lies for what they were.
