PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A resident of the Hare Krishna community of New Vrindaban
has been sentenced to 18 months in jail and five years of probation for opening
phony bank accounts and writing bad checks in Pittsburgh and Detroit,
authorities say.
U.S. Attorney J. Alan Johnson sai Charles Harrison Clayton, 38, was
sentenced this week by U.S. District Judge Alan Bloch.
Johnson said Clayton pleaded guilty to three charges of bank fraud. Clayton
opened bank accounts with false names at Pittsburgh National Bank and Comerica
Bank of Detroit and negotiated bad checks on the accounts, which cost the banks
about $36,000.
