Re: MD-Anti Gun events
Maryland:
Two anti-gun events will be held by an organization called the Bon
Secours Spiritual Center this Friday, January 5. This group is located
at 1525 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, MD.
As part of its schedule of events, at 10:30 a.m., a "workshop and
dialogue" entitled "Violence and Handguns" will be held. It will be
given by Mr. Vincent DeMarco, of HCI, and Mr. Richard Willis, of
Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse.
At 1:00 p.m., a panel discussion entitled "Violence In Our Society",
moderated by the Rev. Norman Handy, Jr., will be held. Panel members are
scheduled to include Mr. Thomas Frazier, Police Commissioner, City of
Baltimore; Ms. Lonise Bias; Mr. Douglas Sands; Ms. Julie Elseroad,
Director, The Missing Peace, Inc.; Mr. Stephen Hoesterey, Director, Bon
Secours Spiritual Center; Ms. Susan Wilhock, Children's Defense Fund;
and Rev. Maurice Blackwell, St. Edward's Church.
According to the flyer NRA received, registration is limited to 250
adults, at a suggested cost of $5.00. This conference is entitled
"Living The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." The Bon Secours
Spiritual Center, "an ecumenical Retreat and Conference Center in the
Roman Catholic tradition, is a ministry of the Sisters of Bon Secours,
USA", and can be reached for more information at 410/442-1320.
The NRA was informed of this event three days prior to its occurrence,
and due to scheduling conflicts and late notice, will not be sending a
representative to the panel discussion. However, we strongly encourage
any interested members to attend this event and voice your opposition to
any proposals which infringe on your right to keep and bear arms.
