TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- A Twin Falls member of the Church of
Jesus Christ Christian -- Aryan Nations -- has been ordered to
jail for at least five days after failing to appear in court
about not paying taxes.
Wayne E. Jones, owner of Jones Glass in Twin Falls, did not
appear in court for a second time on Thursday and was found in
contempt by 5th District Judge Daniel Hurlbutt.
Hurlbutt ordered the maximum five-day jail sentence on the
contempt charge and, in addition, required Jones to spend one day
in jail for each day he does not file a 1985 state tax return.
Jones contends the state has no jurisdiction over him and has
asked that his Social Security number be cancelled.
On June 8, Jones also failed to appear in district court to
show cause why he had not submitted a tax return. Court records
show he filed "an interlocutory appeal" in which he said the
court had engaged in fraud with the Idaho Tax Division and that
the state had violated its own laws by ordering him to file a tax
return.
County records Thursday said Jones had not been taken into
custody to begin his jail sentence.
