COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- Three human rights laws aimed at
restricting white supremacists in Idaho take effect next
Wednesday.
The Church of Jesus Christ Christian (Aryan Nations), a white
supremacist group, has its headquarters in Hayden Lake.
One of the laws prohibits paramilitary training with the
intent to use the training for violent acts against people or
property.
Another new law allows victims of malicious harassment based
on race or religious beliefs to file civil suits as well as
criminal charges.
"Our intent was to have the strongest human rights legislation
in the country," said state Sen. Mary Lou Reed, D-Coeur D'Alene,
speaking Wednesday at a picnic for North Idaho College trustees
and lawmakers.
The third bill affirmed Martin Luther King Day as a state
holiday.
