LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- Federal agents said Saturday six people have been
arrested for allegedly being involved in an armed methamphetamine
trafficking ring.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) officials said the
raid Friday netted five firearms, five kilograms of methamphetamine and
$10,000 in cash at four locations, and closed an operational drug
factory.
Special agent George Rodriguez said a confidential informant alerted
agents that the ring was using firearms during drug deals when they
purchased large quantities of methamphetamines.
Those arrested included Maximo Montevardi, Juan Ayon Ayon, Jose
Contreras and Teodore Sumabat of Los Angeles; Juan Alceves of Cudahy,
and Jose Luis Del Valle, of Huntington Park.
They were being held without bail in the Metropolitan Detention
Center in Los Angeles and were expected to appear for a bail review
hearing Monday in U.S. District Court.
If convicted, they could face minimum mandatory sentences of between
10 and 15 years in federal prison.
