Red cross sent me a letter stating that if I gave blood platelets by the end of march that I would have a choice of a $25 gift card at many different restaurants. I spent 2 hrs giving those platelets on friday, [protected] and proceeded with the instructions to get my $25 gift card. I had my heart set on outback steak house. When the instructions said that I had to call giftcertificates.com customer service at [protected], I did just that. The lady that answered said that all they had was gift cards for $20 for home depot and that was what I was getting. I told her that I had no need for that gift card but I got it anyway. I called to complain, so yesterday I got a gift certificate for $5 to outback. Rather than fighting over this, let this be my request for you to remove me from all donor requests. If you can’t keep your word to me, then I can no longer give blood.

Today I could not help but see an ad on Television National Campaign for the Red Cross asking for donations of blood. My Church – Mount Vernon Baptist Church – on 12/3/16 had a blood drive for which I am the coordinator. I spent over 100 hours working on the blood drive for the Red Cross. COMPLAINT: We had people signed up at specific times to donate blood (war veteran and his veteran wife). They were not allowed to donate their blood because of time. Took my CNA test Feb 1st 2019, passed written, failed the clinical skills test, yes my fault I made mistakes. Accused of wearing perfume at the beginning of clinical test, I confirmed I was, evaluator “lectured” me on the RED CROSS site being a fragrance free site. I apologized profusely, per evaluator its on the email “you were sent”, again I apologized admitting my mistake for not noticing such on the RED CROSS test confirmation email. Per the evaluator “I shouldn”t even test you right now”, I apologized again, then instructor says ” I will test you”. She completed the clinical skills test with me at that time Feb 1st 2019. Retake clinical skills portion of CNA test on 3/5/19 with the same evaluator. Gave evaluator necessary paperwork she requested, sat down to complete a form and evaulator immediately states in very condescending tone along with unecessary finger pointing and facial expressions “eh, I smell perfume on you again today” and starred right at me, I couldn”t believe my ears, I responded “no I am not wearing anything, I deliberately did not wear any today because of what happened last time”, she…”what happened last time”… me…”you lectured me last time about the perfume, so thats why I made sure not to wear anything today”. Her “I did not lecture you”… me…”yes you did”… from here she just continued to berate me about perfume etc… I attempted several times to inform her again that I was not wearing any perfume, and I asked her if she wanted me to leave? She appeared shocked and said “no thats not necessary but you will have to leave your coat and stuff outside”. I responded “sure, no problem but I will have to complete that form when I come back in”. She agreed where upon I went outside and removed my coat/scarf/sweater and left them next to my husband on chairs, and asked him if he could he smell perfume on me, which he reported “No, I can”t smell any, why?” I went back into the testing room, sat down to complete the form and started writing and again the evaluator stated “I can still smell perfume on you, you might not be wearing any but it might be on your coat”. At this stage, I just looked up from writing on the form and said “I am not wearing any fragrance, I asked my husband and he said he couldn”t smell any”. She said “your husband said what?” I told her what my husband said and she stated “its not about him, its about me”! So, at this time I decided this evaluator is making this a personal issue, and I haven”t even started my clinical skills test yet. I informed the evaluator “lets pick our battles right, and this isn”t one, lets just let it go”, whereupon she sat back and I completed the necessary form. After her giving me my clinical test instructions she asked me if I had any questions and I reported yes which she was not happy about per her facial expressions (and me not asking questions initially when I took the clinical skills test Feb 1st 2019 was a contributing factor in me failing that time, again that was my fault) which is why this time second time round I made sure to fully understand the given clinical scenario I was being tested on today 3/5/19). Midway through my handwashing skills portion, I was talking my way through whilst performing such, I looked at her and said “and I make sure to wash two inches above the wrist” she smirked at me almost scoffing at me, I continued to complete the skill, drying my hands, turned around and she was gone!? Second skill, provide nail care to the patient on one hand. Midway through (again speaking my way through the required skill) I corrected myself on one aspect (you are permitted to correct yourself on any skill if you think you may have forgotten something etc), I informed her before filing the patients nails I would clip them, then file across. (etc). Evaluator stated with another smirk, “no you don”t have to clip them pointing over to my assignment card”. I checked the card again and it was stated on the card, clip patients nails! At this point during my clinical skills test I am thinking that it seems possible the evaluator is trying to confuse me. Third and final skill, change blouse/shirt on patient with left sided weakness (this skill I royally botched on my first clinical skills test Feb 1st 2019) specifically because I did not ask the evaluator questions pre test commencing to understand the scenario and the clothing provided for this test might fit a small Asian person, and my husband (my test patient) is 6ft with broad shoulders! The optional gown/Johnny provided on my initial skills test was like a roadmap, I would have needed a GPS to attempt getting all them snaps aligned and this presented a big problem during my first test. So, I informed the evaluator the two shirts provided are too small for him, would you like me to remove his sweatshirt during the test (keeping in mind my patient is to have left sided weakness), she reports “no, you can use the gown”. I asked her if I may look at the gown to just make sure the snaps are together as it presented a big issue during the last test”. She responded”No, just put one of the shirts on over his sweatshirt”! I made my decision there and then that I would remove his sweatshirt (he has a T-shirt on underneath) and attempt to put on one of these small shirts as part of the test, having already informed her these shirts were too small and how am I to get them to fit over his sweatshirt? When it came to this portion of the clinical skills test, I started to remove my patients sweatshirt (husbands sweatshirt (keeping in mind he has left sided weakness per evaluator test instructions), the evaluator stops me and says”you can use the gown, lets just make sure the snaps are correct”! I was speechless, is this not what I asked you at the very beginning before we even started the clinical test when you asked me do I have any questions. I completed this portion of the test as required but couldn”t help thinking this evaluator is attempting to confuse me today, with relation to the “nail care skill/the dressing of a left sided weakness patient”. As, I completed my flow sheet skill at the end of the clinical skills test I reread the instructions again and yes it clearly states”clip patients nails (providing nail care to the patient)! All in all, in my opinion this evaluator was very unprofessional today and she should attempt to remain objective when assuming this role as CNA evaluator even if you dislike the test applicant for whatever reason. (I am a 50y/o woman with a healthcare degree).

upon being classified by a presidential disaster of fire in Shasta County CA several people were evacuees (38, 000 plus) and were housed under red cross authority in an evacuation center. I am speaking for several of those victims as well as what I have seen for myself. The staff for red cross were rude and unsympathetic to the needs of these victims as well as those coming to donate, and being turned away. there were very little if any amenities, i.e. sugar for coffee, soap, etc, even cups had to be sent out for. where exactly are these donations going? you guys offer no information or help victims by leading them to the help they need. Im going to see that an audit is put forth on the donations from the Carr Fire Incident in Shasta County as i have directed many donations to that source. Shasta County needs some answers.

Very rude and were not qualified to take blood. I have severe bruising and my boyfriend has pooling under the skin. While my blood was being drawn, they sent a girl to the ER (not calling anyone to drive her even though she was drifting in and out of consciousness) because they ruptured her artery. I was there Monday the 15th at Columbus State campus. It is now Friday and my arm is still severely painful to move or touch in the bruised areas.

W2003-[protected] My donation experience on Saturday November 2nd, 2019 has made me never want to donate blood ever again. There’s a pop up by my house that I go to every time they have an event. I’ve never had an issue and it’s always been fast and easy, until today. The phlebotomists stuck the needle in my arm, then apparently my blood stopped flowing, he adjusted the needle and still no blood, tried one more time. No blood. A second person came over to give it a go, still nothing. A third person came over and adjusted the needle, put a buffer under my arm to prop it up, still no blood. A felt something strange and looked over at my arm and it’s covered in blood, a fourth person had to come over and start wiping up the blood. She cleaned my arm, wrapped it up, apologized and sent me on my way… I got zero explanation why this happened or what was going on. So I’m left not wanting to ever donate again and a vivid image on my blood covering my arm.

We are sitting in the Hudson High School in Hudson Ohio and as my 60 year old husband is called up she looks at him and says” you”re still reading sit back down “and turned to the next person and called her and walked away. It was the tone and rudeness of how she said it. We are giving blood because of a need in the community so you should train your Red Cross workers on manners and respect. Her name is Quintana. Thank you

We gladly donated to Super Storm Sandy relief when the stars had their benefit. However, our card was charged for what we donated and the an additional $50.00 second charge. We got our charge card company to reverse the charge but after contacting the Red Cross, they are now reissueing that charge. We are going to write off the $50.00 but never ever give to the Red Cross again and that includes my blood donations.

Wednesday September 4, 2018 I donated blood with our YSA stake blood drive. I have had 5 children and I am not the least bit bothered by needles. But it really hurt when the phlebotomist inserted the needle into the bend of my arm. I said out loud to her that hurts so much. I almost told her to remove the needle so I could leave because it hurt so much and it hurt the entire time through out the procedure. It”s a day later and I have a small raised area and bruising. If you touch it even barely it burns so much. I looked up my pain on line and it says the needle should have been removed immediately and pressure applied for 3 minutes. I am worried about it being ok because I have never had an experience like this before. My friend who was also donating blood and was across from me complained of her arm feeling numb. The Flabotimist that took our blood donation had ( copper red hair, tattoos, heavier set, short pony tail).when I read online about my arm pain I also read that a numb arm is one of the complications described and you should contact your doctor. I am waiting to hear from my friend to see if she is ok. Now I wounder how qualified the phlebotomist was who stuck us. Now I am scared for the first time in my life and I don”t want to give blood again. I have learned you can be severely and permanently injured if this is done wrong. I”m not sure it”s worth the risk. How much training have the phlebotomist had who are working on these blood drives? Does the Red Cross care about this? FYI

Went to blood drive as a walk in on 02320 at Harmony Grove Rd in Lilburn GA. I signed in and took a seat next to the only other person waiting. She turned to me and said, “They act like they don’t want to take blood, I’ve been waiting over 15 minutes” . There was only 1 person actually giving blood, and one being questioned, 3 employee were standing together laughing at a table. Well the lady was finally called, and then I was the only other person waiting. After 10 minutes, (she had cleared the questioned area and was giving blood) I went to the laughing group and asked how long. Miguel told me to take a seat and wait. I did and he shorty called me over. He asked for my drivers license but never looked at it, or explained why he asked for it, instead he asked questions that were on the license, he acted quite put out. Priscilla who took my blood was the total opposite, she smiled and was very nice. Long story short. Miguel made me feel like I was imposing on him, that I was annoying. I volunteered my tine, my blood, and my inconvenience, he was being paid. If you give blood for free, all your employees should not be hostile

With a new Hurricane that might hit fla…You will see insurance company’s want to leave the state…They hate to give out money..And another thing i was giving to red Cross for years and during the last set of storms that left us with out power for 2 weeks I only saw one red cross truck at the mall passing out food because no stores were open due to no power..Well they ran out of food in 20 min and never saw another Red Cross truck again…What do they do with all of there money they sure don’t help like they say…I stopped giving to them after I got nothing at the mall and there were so many hungry people..And this was due because the weather people said the Hurricane would miss us…So nobody was ready..And forget the goverment ever helping they go on TV with there shirts rolled up acting like there are doing something but they don’t do a thing to help out the people…It’s every man for himself…The Hurricanes do one good thing they make people leave and not come back…You go threw one of these things and it is hell…

Tonja oakes, business services (Red cross, 113 lakeview dr, charleston, wv) treats some older volunteers with disrespect, attempted control, deciding what mood a person is in before asking, tells people they are not allowed to voice an opinion… If people disagree with her she gets angry… She recently tried to have a volunteer dismissed because this person spoke up to her, stood up for the truth ! Most of the staff @ this red cross are in denial there is a “black mold” problem in the building ! Has made several people ill thru the past 3 yrs; one woman became so ill she almost died, spent 4 days in icu in 2014… They dont seem to care enough to have this issue taken care of so no one else will be sick from the mold.. .1this office has spent alot of money on new cars but say there is no money for a new roof to stop the black mold issues… A long term recovery staff member told a worker there was no mold in the building & to be quiet… Many volunteers have quit because they felt unappreciated, weren”t given access to the building with either a key or access code for the back door…
