Received third notice within a year to provide proof of insurance or registration will suspended. Sent in copy of insurance once again weeks before the due date. The registration was suspended anyways and a fee to reinstate. This is ridiculous DMV is falsely extorting money from consumers. I drive for a living and am audited daily, my insurance has never lapsed. Pure scam to ripoff people. I have proof, witnesses, etc to vouch I mailed that proof. DMV must not get away with this anymore. This is more unnecessary time for bull. Scammers, You guys lie to sqeeze money out of people. I will not let this one go. I will escalate this is as high as I can to get recognition of DMV’s UNLAWFUL PRACTICES AND SCAMS. They do this all the tine to get money out of us. I have proof …

Trying to check online the status of vehicle registration. System down with no notice of when it will be up. Contact via phone, you go through the whole system and then it tells you not available at this time. 8/20/2018 1:58 pm Frustrating for me as a 87 year old women, trying to take care of my business, pay you fees and then do not get any service from you. My next written complaint will be to my state representative.

TRIP 1 to DMV: I’m from Michigan – recently moved to San Diego. Went to DMV on Derrick. Waited in line to obtain a number. Once I reached front desk, was told that I had to have my vehicle inspected (not something I had to do in Michigan, so it was a surprise). Had to go back outside and wait in another line in my car until my turn (3 cars ahead of me) to have my vehicle looked over. Went back inside. Obtained my number. Waited in another line until my number was called. Was then asked if I had a “Smog” check done on my vehicle. I had never heard of such a thing and didn’t know where to go since I had only been in San Diego a few days. I was sent across the street to PepBoys. Had to wait THREE HOURS. TRIP 2 to DMV: Returned to DMV after PepBoys smog check. DMV now closed. TRIP 3 to DMV: Waited in line to obtain number. Waited in another line until my number was called. Provided smog check proof, car inspection proof, proof on liability auto insurance, my Michigan Driver’s license, Social Security card, evidence of my residency via signed apartment lease and a bill addressed to me at that address. Was told that I had to basically pay for my vehicle again because California taxes are higher than Michigan taxes. I believe this is unconstitutional. I’m not entering from another country, yet I’m being required, in essence, to pay duties on a vehicle that I already purchased more than a year previously. Paid large sum of $$, obtained registration and plates, but… was told I could not get my driver’s license unless I could prove name changes dating back 40 years ago. I believe this, too, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!. This affects mostly women, and mostly women of a certain age since it was the expected social custom to change your name when you married at that time. ADDITIONAL: I had a valid social security card and valid Michigan driver’s license with my name on it. Does California think I didn’t have to show proof of identity to obtain those things? They are official documents and this is unconstitutional and just plain wrong on the part of California. Cannot remember exact dates of teenage marriage and divorce, but had to pay additional $224 dollars to obtain vital records from Michigan as, even in Michigan, I didn’t hang on to marriage/divorce (x2 each) papers from so many years ago and best forgotten. TRIP 4 to DMV: waited in line to obtain number. Sent to wait in another line. Presented the Vital records that the California DMV wrongfully requested. Told I now had to take a written test; however, they stop allowing people to take the test because it was within a hour of closing. TRIP 5 to DMV: Waited in line to obtain number. Waited in another line. Took written driver’s test. Passed. Sent to wait in another line for documents. Sent to wait in yet another line to have the picture taken. After waiting, camera stopped working. Waited for a 2nd employee to mess around with it to no avail; therefore… Sent to wait in yet another line for a different camera. Made to remove my glasses (Never asked to do that before in Michigan). Received the most GOD AWFUL driver’s license picture to date – seeing it would make you run home crying to mama – if you didn’t turn to stone first. Approx 2 weeks – driver’s license arrives. Approx 3 to 4 weeks later: Receive threatening letter from DMV saying my vehicle registration will be suspended unless I provide proof of auto liability insurance. This is the same proof of insurance that I turned in at the time I received my registration and plates (see TRIP 3 above). Do you think California DMV would have provided me with registration and plates had I not shown them that proof at the same time. ADDITIONAL: This is the time when a colleague pointed out to me, “hey…” “did you know they spelled your name wrong on your driver’s license?” OMG! The California DMV is the worse ever, UNCONSTITUTIONAL in its practices, disorganized, incompetent. What? Are they going to charge me yet MORE money because they typed my name incorrectly on my driver’s license. How many more trips do I have to make?

To whom it may concern; I looked over my vehicle registration for my 2017 VW e-Golf and there is a $145 license fee and a $143 registration fee. This is an outrage! This is 12% of my disability income . How am I supposed to eat? I will be forced to skip paying other bills or medical treatment in order to pay your criminal penalization of used electric car fees in California. This was a used car. If I were polluting the planet with a combustion engine vehicle you would happily cut the fee in half and poison the population. End the clean car penalty now!

This organization is pathetic! I ordered dupilicate plates on Feb. 22 2019. It is now May 3rd. Along with that, the agent requested my old plates, but I later found out that they should not have took them. Obviously since its taken so long I have to drive around and get pulled over multiple times and explain my situation my highway patrol and Local cops. No one knows what they are doing, ive been told im supposed to get a phone call, others DMV employess say im supposed too get a postcard. I get my tags after i register my car in less then a 7-10 days, But duplicate specialized firefighter plates takes 3-6months? Why? This is rediculous! They wont even give me a paper to put on my license plate that says 5 or 6 for the month. I have to carry some piece of crap paper in my car but consistently be tailed and pulled over for a tag that says 4. Im expected to do my job, yet many others have so many low services and expectations. This has got to get better expecially for people trying to get it right and do things correct or by the law!!!

This complaint is against DMV Special Processing Unit MSD238 in Sacramento. On or before November 21, 2019 DMV received a $6.00 payment from me along with a Physician Completed Handicap Placard Application for the purpose of issuing a temporary placard. DMV cashed the check of $6.00 dollars and sent me back an incomplete notification on November 26, 2019. Within that same envelope DMV included a “sealed” return back envelope (See attached pictures) along with list of requesting additional information from Physician. Today 1/10/20 I visited my Physician and explained to him the situation and we are sending the form back to you for further processing, Physician included additional information. The envelope was cut open due to your sealing of it making it impossible for me to reasonably comply and mail it back to the DMV.

Their representatives are acting with arbitrariness when the people come to get their driver licenses or Id’s. An example was when a Canadian came to try to get the driver license they were requesting for a SSN (When it is not required) and a VISA (Does any Canadian require VISA??). This is only showing that these people is not properly training at the time of verify the identity of any citizen when they come to try to get their paperwork. OPEN YOUR EYES!!!

The fees for vehicle registration is astronomical, and what exactly am I getting out of it, except going in to debt? 388 dollars to renew a registration on a nissan altima seems like highway robbery. It is not a bently or a ferrari, it’s a car normal working class people use to get to work and back. Plus there isn’t even ways to help with us poor people just trying to make a living, such as payment arrangements or anything.

So, my husband and I married just over a year ago. After I got my name changed legally with SS, I went over the the DMV to get my new license with my married name. I thought, “What the hell, I might as well become an organ donor.” So, I added that to my new license. It took forever, and a fortnight to get my card in the mail, but what was most amusing was that the name on the letter had my correct married name, but that the card still contained my maiden name and did not contain the organ donor dot. *** Note: each time I have visited the DMV in Hanford, the same old lady at station eight has helped me. I have kept record of this. So, I went back a third time to the DMV in Hanford, and visited lady eight to have my ID corrected. Initially she was trying to get me to pay twenty bucks for a new license. I became irate, but I kept my cool. I spoke to the person in charge and explained that this is not my fault, I have all of the proper paperwork (which incuded the original letter that had my married name and the card that contained my maiden name), and therefore, I should not be charged for a new ID since it was not at all my fault, but the DMV’s error. They complied. Oh, and here’s the cherry-on-top, she denied servicing me the prior times I was there. So, I leave happily knowing that they would not possibly screw up again. So, I wait two weeks and finally receive my new License. (Unfortunately, now I have moved due to a military DTY, and I no longer reside in the state of CA, but wish to keep my residency there, because shortly, we will be back in CA.) At this point, I open up the envelope with my new ID and low and behold the donor dot is there, the letter has the correct name on it, but the license still has my former (maiden) name on it!!! How incompetent do you have to be to mess up something like this??!! This is a common event for almost every woman! Now, here I am, 3500 miles away from this lady at station eight wishing I could walk up to her and say, “remember me? you claimed so boldly before that you did not service my needs, but here, I know for a fact that it was you initially, and it was again you who screwed up a second time!” I would attach photos for the rest of you to enjoy, but this is sort of personal information that I am not so willingly going to display. I hope you enjoyed my rantings, and please learn from this: If ever you have to visit the Hanford, CA DMV, do not, I repeat, DO NOT visit the lady at station eight!

Recently my husband and I received a very ambiguous letter from the CA DMV regarding our truck. I needed to go to the DMV for some unrelated business and brought the letter with me. I went into the DMV and to make a (very) long story short, the letter was a Delinquency Notice for the registration of his truck. I always pay our bills on time – a delinquency notice is not common practice in our home. The clerk told me it was the “fourth” notice they had sent and told me I owed $305 immediately. It was really upsetting and ruined our Christmas gift giving plans. Now this isn”t some sappy, bleeding heart story. There”s a reason submitting this complaint: today we received a Notice of Delinquency for my car!! The State is charging us $108 in delinquency fees and it”s only a month late (due 11/22). Since my first car at 18, I have always received a notice from the DMV at least a month BEFORE my registration was due. Apparently California is attempting to bridge the severe budget gaps by screwing over hard working Californians by “sending” registration renewal notices (that you never receive), then sending a delinquency notice with penalty fees (that you, ironically, receive just fine). I am so disgusted I could spit. I made notes in my 2011 bill calendar two months ahead of our vehicle registration dates. I won”t let this happen to us again. I find it very questionable that this would happen to us for both our vehicles (and within months of each other).

Today June 30, 2017 I went for the third time to try and pass my behind the wheel test. I admit I was very hesitant the first time I had passed the written test and let time pass by so I had to re-do the whole process. however on the first try the driving instructor I got was a lady in her middle age. while taking the test she yelled at me very bad and made me get even more nervous it was the most horrible experience ever. today though I went in and asked If I could refuse to take my test with the driving instructor if I did not want them. The gentle men at the front said it was ok and for me to wait in line to take my test. I did as he said. However when I was waiting I saw that lady approach me she asked for me to hand over my paper work and I neglected she said for me to give it to her I kept on refusing till I did. she said I could not discuss with her the matter nor argue with her and could not choose who to take the test with. I explained to her that I did not want to take it with her because of the incident that had happened the first time and she said I would have to reschedule again. on top of that she took my paper away and wrote MF which stand for mechanical failure, she put those initials lying my car had an issue. the whole time she spoke to me she gave me attitude acted really mean and was extremely rude. Afterwards I went back in to speak to the manager with my mom’s friend who was accompanying me but, the manager had already heard about the issue since the lady had told all the staff I saw her telling them and giving me a dirty look. the manager was rude as well she said I could still take it but she did not want for me to make up an excuse it was there fault if I did not pass it. the location of this DMV is the Santa Teresa dmv. the lady I am speaking about seems to be white and Chicana mostly white with blonde hair in her middle age. I really hope someone looks into my complain.I do not understand why the system of the dmv is such trash
