The Magic Jack plugs into a USB port. I have enjoyed using my Magic Jack for over a year but last night the unit broke away from the USB plug and fell to the floor. The USB plug appears to have had 4 points that were soldered (not well) to 4 points inside the unit and that”s all that held the 2 parts together. The Magic Jack is too heavy for the plug. I always noted that the weight made the unit hang down a bit. They won”t replace it since it broke on my end. I am not willing to pay another $50 or so to replace it. SO..IS THAT HOW THEY ARE ADDING TO THE BOTTOM LINE AND SELLING SERVICE SO CHEAPLY? By selling such poorly made units that they know you will have to replace them>

This screenshot tells most of my story. In my area, Windstream landlines do not connect to magicJack numbers. MagicJack is a do-it-yourself hardware addition. With the price, I expected a little bit of configuring to get it to work. I was correct there. Although, it wasn’t as bad as it seems from the surface. It only took checking some settings on my computer, and making sure everything was set to operate the device properly. ONCE THE DEVICE WAS OPERATING CORRECTLY, I soon learned about the territorial boundaries the phone companies have setup. SO, anyone in my area with Windstream cannot call my magicJack… Sry Windstream fans, you’ll have to talk to me a different way. MagicJack SAYS ‘anyone in the world can call you’; THEY LIE! While it may or may not be MagicJack’s fault, MagicJack still lies about it in their documentation. I have not found official notice from magicJack about limitations of incoming calls. It says: “anyone in the world can call you”. Not happy about that. Saying one thing, then doing another… that’s a violation of the constitution of the republic.

Worked fine for the 1st month and a half. Overnight, it stopped working. Their website is as difficult to navigate as Walmarts’. It took me 30 minutes to find a Customer Chat line. I was disconnected from the chatline on 4 different occassions and spoke with 8 agents over a nine hour period. The piece of crap still doesn’t work. No one of their end seems to know what their doing and everyone you talk to wants to walk you thru the same nine hundred steps wiping other software off your computer (that they say is incompatible with magicJack – funny thing it worked for over a month with that same software on my machine). The product is great in theory and useless in practice. If you threaten one of their agents by saying you’re going to use some other voip service, they’ll disconnect you. There is NO actual phone number to call and you can tell by their dialect, their “agents” are not American. Which, in and of itself, is most likely half the problem. Take my advice folks – keep your 39.95 and use it to pay for 3 months of quality Vonage service. The only magic this jack has is the works one minute – broke the next magic!

there is no clarity in the phone service. weather I call out or receive calls, the speech is all broken up and you have to keep asking the other party what or they have to keep asking you what you said. the magicjack company does not have a phone number to call and ask for help, so you have really no way to get in touch with them. Well let me tell you! that when I order this MagicJack, I only order One and got charge the normal amount $46.90, later on the same week I got charge again $39.95 (I say why?) I try calling and I was on hold for 56 minutes with the same recording OVER and OVER again. I say to my self!! Let me try the Web site and see how this is handle…Ho boy what did I got my self in to!!! trying to Chat with customer Service Man that first of all it took forever the customer Service to reply, on top of that they Keep asking me the same question over and Over again ( what is you order #? did you received the Item) To make a long story Short I DONT RECOMEND THIS. I”m returning these items to MagicJack and am going to take 3 to 6 weeks for me to get my return!!! AGAIN NOT COOL MAGICJACK

The only way to contact MagicJack is through a live chat in their website. Then you get to speak to non-English speaking Indians, who put you on hold for 15 minutes at a time while they “Research your record” and give you the runaround. I”ve had it happen three times when trying to get a refund for the MagicJack I returned, and have been told each time that they would email me within 3 days telling me when I would get my return. It”s been three months and it”s never happened. They lie, lie, lie!! The quality of my USB was poor, with scratchy sound. I got a return authorization number and returned it within two weeks. the wait began. That was in May 2008. It”s now August, and I have spent three hours on the phone getting the runaround, but no refund. So I turned them in to my state Attorney General”s office.
