Effective treatment inspires measureable positive change. I provide therapy that is focused on helping individuals develop the emotional tools and life skills necessary to achieve their goals, get the most out of their interpersonal relationships and ultimately take responsibility for their personal growth and happiness. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, an evidenced-based treatment for people with difficulty managing their emotions, relationships and behaviors. My approach to therapy is to provide empirically-based interventions in a warm, playful and transparent manner. When appropriate, I teach mindfulness and behavior change strategies in order to promote flexibility and well-being.My specialty is working with treatment-resistant anxiety and depression, mood instability, disordered eating, substance abuse, impulsivity, and interpersonal conflict. I also have particular interest in working with couples who want an evidenced-based therapy that is collaborative, goal-oriented and psycho-educational in nature: the Gottman Method.17 randomized clinical trials in 14 independent sites have shown that DBT reduces problem behavior, increases emotional stability, reduces/eliminates self-harming, reduces/eliminates suicidal urges/actions (and hospitalizations), improves functioning and communication in relationships, reduces/eliminates alcohol/drug abuse, and reduces/eliminates binge eating and bulimia among other compulsions.
